The Friends of the St. Paul Skyway now has a website. They have a couple of events coming up this month that look well worth attending: a Skyway Social at the 1881 in Union Depot on Friday, April 17, and a $5 Progressive Dinner at some of the “Western Zone” eateries connected to the skyway, including Ruam Mit, Kincaid’s, and Sakura, on Wednesday, April 29. You can register for the events at the Friends’ website.
City Walk’s direct connection to the skyway is one of the many appealing features of our building, but as readers likely already know, last year’s closure of the nearby Alliance Bank building effectively cut the skyway into two pieces, an “Eastern Zone” running between Town Square and Union Depot, and a “Western Zone” that includes City Hall, the public library, River Centre, and the Xcel (now Grand Casino) Center. One of the goals of the Friends of the Skyway is to get the goddam system fully reconnected, so that people don’t have to go outside in all kinds of yucky weather to get where they should be able to get comfortably indoors. If skyway access to downtown locations is among your reasons for living at City Walk, check out the Skyway Friends — in addition to the social events, the website also has a skyway survey that will help in the organization’s efforts to enhance the vitality of the St. Paul skyway.
